Desiree Jacob

Ms. Jacob obtained her BSc. in International Finance Magna Cum Laude in 1998 and her in MBA in 2002 from the International College of the Cayman Islands. Following this Ms. Jacob qualified as a Certified Public Accountant with the State of Indiana (now inactive) in 2007, having passed her exams in 2006. In 2009, Ms. Jacob graduated with her LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Liverpool with a 2:1 and obtained her Professional Practitioner’s Certificate in 2010 (with Commendation). Ms. Jacob was admitted to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2011 having completed her articled clerkship with a notable law firm in the Cayman Islands, Appleby.

Prior to qualifying as a CPA and becoming a lawyer, Ms. Jacob served as a Senior Analyst with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority in the Investments and Securities division and was instrumental in creating and implementing the on-site inspection programme.

Ms. Jacob’s experience also includes over 10 years in fund administration and accounting. Her last role was with a leading fund administrator in 2008 where she served as a Deputy Head of Fund of Funds for MUFG (formerly UBS). She served in this senior role while attending law school full time, having started her career with Fortis (formerly MeesPierson) in 1992.

Ms. Jacob qualified into the structured finance division of the law firm, Appleby, focusing on CLOs, bond issuances, securitisations and subscription financing. She later practiced as an attorney with another leading law firm, Ogier, in the funds division where her focus was on fund and private equity launches and providing on-going general and corporate legal advice for her clients.

Her most recent role prior to forming both Jacob Law and Jacob Corporate was as a Vice President for a publicly listed leader in trust and corporate administration, Intertrust. There, Ms. Jacob led a team of upwards to 10 administrators who maintained, managed and serviced over 2700 entities in the Private Equity space, in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia (EMEA) and Latin American regions. While Vice President she also served as a personal director and was a signatory for the corporate director as well.

Ms. Jacob has over 20 years of combined experience in law, corporate management, fund administration/accounting and regulation.

Ms. Jacob has been a member of the Special Needs Foundation Cayman Islands since 2016, a member of 100 Women in Finance since 2012 and the Cayman Islands Law Society since 2011.

Rudo Mugwagwa

Ms. Mugwagwa is a New York qualified attorney-at-law. She completed her LL.M. in Securities & Financial Regulation from Georgetown University Law Center (2015) and was admitted to the New York Bar (2017). She holds an LL.B. (Hons) degree from the University of Manchester with a 2:1 and a B.A. degree in Political Science and Sociology (2011) from the University of British Columbia.

Prior to qualifying as an attorney, Ms. Mugwagwa served as the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service One Baltimore for Jobs Project Coordinator under the Freddie Gray Grant. She was responsible for ensuring the delivery of civil legal services to over 250 trainees from work training programs as part of the Baltimore Mayors Office Employment pilot project. Ms. Mugwagwa mobilized staff and volunteer attorneys to provide wrap around services, working primarily with the consumer protection and expungement groups.

Ms. Mugwagwa served as a Legal Intern with the Commercial and Financial Services Group at Dube Manikai & Hwacha Commercial Chambers in Zimbabwe and the Commercial Department at EOS Law LLP in England.

Ms. Mugwagwa also serves as the Compliance Officer of Jacob Corporate Ltd. and is on the advisory board for The African Perspective Magazine. She is a member of 100 Women in Finance and the New York Bar.
